The Visualization ToolKit (VTK) is an open source, freely available software system for 3D computer graphics, image processing, and visualization used by thousands of researchers and developers around the world. VTK consists of a C++ class library, and several interpreted interface layers including Tcl/Tk, Java, and Python. IGSTK is built on top of VTK to provide additional functionality. IGSTK utilizes VTK filters for image guided surgery application development.

ITK is an open-source, cross-platform system that provides developers with an extensive suite of software tools for data set analysis.  Developed through extreme programming methodologies, ITK employs leading-edge algorithms for registering and segmenting multidimensional data. IGSTK is built on top of VTK to provide additional functionality. IGSTK utilizes ITK filters for image guided surgery application development.

CMake is a family of tools designed to build, test and package software. CMake is used to control the software compilation process using simple platform and compiler independent configuration files. CMake generates native makefiles and workspaces that can be used in the compiler environment of your choice. IGSTK utilizes CMake for the configure and build process.
